Why isn't my post-purchase offer showing?

Applies to: Post-purchase offers in Brew. Requires post-purchase offers to be enabled in your Shopify checkout settings.

If you created a post-purchase offer but customers are not seeing it after they place an order, one of the checks below will almost always explain why.

Post-purchase offers work differently from your other offers. The post-purchase page is controlled by Shopify, not by Brew, and Shopify will skip that page entirely for certain payment methods and certain kinds of orders. Even a perfectly configured offer will not appear on an order that Shopify has decided to skip.

Work through the sections in order. The first four are settings you can fix. The rest are conditions on the order itself.

1. Brew is not selected as your post-purchase app in Shopify

This is the most common cause by far.

Shopify allows only one app to own the post-purchase page. If you have any other upsell app installed, or previously had one, that app may still be selected, and Brew will never render.

To check:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Checkout.
  2. Find the post-purchase page setting.
  3. Confirm that Brew is the selected app.
  4. Save if you changed it.

If a different app is selected, switching to Brew takes effect immediately for new orders. Orders already placed will not retroactively show an offer.

Only one app can own the post-purchase page. If you run two upsell apps, only the selected one will ever show offers.

2. The offer is not active

An offer that exists in your dashboard is not necessarily live.

Open Post-purchase in Brew and check the status indicator next to your offer name in the list.

3. Another offer won on priority

If you have more than one post-purchase offer, and an order matches the conditions of several of them, Brew shows only one. The offer with the highest priority wins, and the others are skipped for that order.

Priority 1 is the highest. You can see each offer's priority in the Priority column of the post-purchase list, and change the order using the Manage priority button.

So if a specific offer is never appearing, check whether a higher priority offer is matching the same orders and taking them all. Move the offer you want up in the priority list, or narrow the conditions on the higher priority offer so the two no longer overlap.

4. The order did not match the offer conditions

Your offer only shows on orders that meet the conditions you set when you created it. Open the offer and review those conditions against a real order that did not show the offer.

Common mismatches include products or collections the customer did not actually buy, cart value thresholds the order fell below, and an offer product that is out of stock or unavailable in the customer's country.

If your offer promotes a product that is sold out, or not published to the sales channel or market the customer is buying from, the offer cannot be presented.

5. The customer paid with a method that skips the post-purchase page

Shopify requires the customer's card to be securely stored during checkout in order to charge a post-purchase offer with one click. Payment methods that do not allow this cause Shopify to skip the post-purchase page.

A useful way to think about it: if the customer left your checkout to pay somewhere else, or paid using a wallet button, there is no stored card for Shopify to charge, so there is no post-purchase page.

This restriction is set by Shopify and applies to every post-purchase app on the platform, not only Brew. It is not something Brew can work around.

6. The order itself did not qualify

Even with a supported payment method, Shopify will skip the post-purchase page in these cases:

Condition

Detail

Order total below 0.50

Orders must be 0.50 or more to qualify

Sales channel is not Online Store

Orders from POS, the Shop app and other channels never render the page

Local delivery

Offers do not appear on local delivery orders

Local pickup, or no shipping address

Digital only and pickup orders have no shipping address, which prevents subscription offers being added

Duties or multiple currencies

Offers do not appear on orders with duties applied or in a second currency

Three offers already accepted

A customer can accept a maximum of three post-purchase offers per checkout

7. Rare causes

Very high store load. During flash sales and other extreme traffic, Shopify may briefly delay creating the order to keep checkout fast. When that happens the post-purchase page is not shown, even though the request was made correctly.

The customer closed the browser. The post-purchase page appears for a limited window after checkout. If the customer closed the tab or navigated away before it loaded, they will not see it and cannot return to it.

Still not showing?

If you have worked through all of the above and the offer still is not appearing, contact us with:

  • The order number of an order that should have shown the offer
  • The payment method used on that order
  • The name of the offer you expected to see
  • A screenshot of your offer conditions

That lets us check the specific order rather than guessing.
